WEB BASED NEW INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGIES: WEB 2.0 TOOLS

Abstract
Internet is one of the most important technologies nowadays. It can be actively used in a lot of areas with this qualification, and the main areas are education and distance education. Web Based Instruction is essential for the distance education applications. Developments in the internet have direct effect on the applications of web based education. Web 2.0 tools which are web logs, wikis, pod casts and instant messaging are thought to have positive effects in using Web based instruction. Web 2.0 tools are called social software because of their qualities. Web 2.0 tools, which support social side and based on interaction, are also useful in communication, collaboration and interaction. In this way use of these tools can increase the feeling of sociality and social presence while decreasing the isolation, alienation and frustrated feelings in distance education environments. However these tools support the usage of constructivist approach and the transactional distance theory in WBI. This article will discuss the aspects of WBI and the students’ interactions with it, Web 2.0 tools and their educational usage and effects of them in WBI.
