Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the learning strategies used by the students
studying at the faculties of vocational and technical education in terms of different
variables. The data has been provided through General Learning Strategies Survey
in this study , where Search Model has been used. The survey has been applied after
its validity and reliability tests have been completed. The target universe of the
study consists of 2575 people. The study has been carried out with 931 students
chosen through ‘Stratified Sample’ method. The results of the study have shown that
the students studying at the faculties of vocational and technical education prefer
using ‘Cognitive Management Strategy’ the most and ‘Affective Strategy’ the least.
It has also been found out that for girls there is a meaningful difference between
the gender of students studying at the faculties of Vocational and Technical Education
and the learning strategies they use, but the difference between the types of high
schools learners graduated from and the frequency of using learning strategies is
not meaningful. According to these results, it has been suggested that the learning
strategies which students studying at the faculties of vocational and technical
education prefer to use be determined through surveys in the first academic year
and that the instructors be given seminars about learning and teaching strategies.
