Abstract
The aim of this research is to examine the validity and reliability of the Turkish
version of the Revised Test Anxiety Scale (RTA; Benson & El-Zahhar, 1994). The sample
of this study consisted of 335 high school students. In addition, the language equivalency
of scale was carried on 45 English teachers and the re-test reliability analysis
was carried on 107 high school students. Results of language equivalency showed
that the correlations between Turkish and English items were ranging from .52 to
.91. Results of confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated that the twenty items
loaded on four factors and the four-dimensional model was well fit (x²=332.20, df=160,
RMSEA=.056, CFI=.92, IFI=.92, GFI=.91, and SRMR=.051). The internal consistency
coefficients of four subscales were .78, .77, .71, and .80 respectively, for the
overall scale was .88. Also the three-week interval test-retest reliability coefficients
of four subscales were .75, .64, .74, and .70 respectively, for the overall scale
was .65. The corrected item-total correlations of RTAS ranged from .37 to .58. Overall
findings demonstrated that Turkish version of the Revised Test Anxiety Scale had
adequate validity and reliability scores.
