THE PREDICTIVE POWER OF BODY IMAGE AND REJECTION SENSITIVITY ON SUBJECTIVE WELL-BEING

Abstract
Subjective well-being is a research area that covers a lot of life situations and their analysis assessment. Different variables relating to subjective well-being have been studied and a lot of factors linked to an individual’s well-being have been determined. The body image and rejection sensitivity related to an individual’s acceptance can be found among these variables. Body satisfaction and self-acceptance have one of the most important developmental roles factors in adolescence. Besides, adolescence is considered to be a period when adolescents have a strong need for confirmation and acceptance from peers and parents. This study aims to examine whether university students’ body image and rejection sensitivity predict their subjective well-being. Participants were freshmen students from various departments of Fatih Faculty of Education at Karadeniz Technical University. A total of 332 volunteers aged between 17-19 were participated in the study. 189 of the participants were females and 143 males. Data were collected by using the Personal Information Form , Body Perception Scale, Rejection Sensitivity Scale and Subjective Well-being Scale. The Multiple regression analysis technique was utilized in the analysis of data. The results showed that university students’ body image and rejection sensitivity were predictors of their subjective well-being. Moreover, it has been found that the predictive power of the subjective well-being of body image was high.
