THE EFFECT OF TRANSACTIONAL DISTANCE ON STUDENTS’ SELF EFFICACY PERCEPTION IN DISTANCE EDUCATION

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to reveal whether there are differences between self-efficacyperception of students participating in learning activities for content in the distance education which designed so as to form different transactional levels. For this purpose, the study was planned and performed in accordance with the posttest experimental model. In this model, there is subsequent measurement of the experimental procedure for three students’ content-related self-efficacyperceptions in the experimental group.This research was conducted with 74 second and third year students from Ankara University, Faculty of Educational Science, Computer Education and Instructional Technology Program in 2006-2007 the fall semester. Test scores were used to select subjects and to match the experimental groups. According to this variable three experimental groups were constituted with 24, 26 and 24 subjects. This study was conducted as a doctoral thesis. ANOVA results showed that in terms of self-efficacy there was a high significant difference between the students in the least and medium transactional distance environments, and the students in the high transactional distance environment.
