THE EFFECT OF THE INQUIRY TEACHING STRATEGY ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

Abstract

The Inquiry Teaching Strategies, which have roots in Socratic thoughts, have caused the development of a new perspective in teaching-learning process by introducing research and investigation dimensions to the interaction between teacher and the student. The teacher, utilizing the Inquiry Teaching strategies have two important aims: 1) Increasing the insight of the student by introducing the subject in depth; 2) Getting the student to learn the concepts and rules of the subjects by testing the power of insight of the student. The main aim of this work is to compare of the effect on students academic success an instruction processes based on inquiry teaching concept with one based on lecturing. Freshman students studying in teacher training programs of the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Faculty of Divinity of Ankara University have been the subjects of research.
