PROSPECTIVE CLASSROOM TEACHERS' MOST REMEMBERED AND MOST PREFERRED METAPHORS ABOUT ELEMENTARY SCHOOLING

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to explore prospective classroom teachers' most remembered and most preferred metaphors about elementary schooling. The study data was collected through the administration of a Likert-style questionnaire consisting of six teacher-centered and six student-centered elementary school metaphors to 381 first-year and 103 final-year elementary teacher education students enrolled in the Faculty of Education of Selcuk University during the 2001-2002 school year. According to the results, prospective classroom teachers' most remembered and most preferred elementary school metaphors differ significantly from one another.
